The Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (APPi) recommended fee for Psychological services for a standard psychological consultation of 40-60 minutes is $280

• Medicare Rebates, and Gap Charges Under the Medicare 'Better Access To Mental Health Care' scheme

You may be eligible for a rebate for treatment provided by a registered psychologist.

Under this initiative, you receive a rebate of $89.65 when seeing a registered psychologist. This makes seeing a psychologist more affordable and accessible to all. You only pay the gap between the rebate amount and the standard fee.

You must see your GP or Psychiatrist to check your eligibility for this program. Your doctor will work with you to create a Medicare mental health plan. The plan enables you to access up to 10 sessions per calendar year. You must bring your referral letter and plan to the first appointment to get the rebate.

Many health funds will allow you to claim a rebate for psychological services. Please check with your health fund about the amount and limits on rebates for psychological treatment.
